Special Religious Education (SRE)
BJE is proud to be the only Government-approved provider of Jewish SRE in NSW public schools. Through our SRE program, we offer students the opportunity to explore Jewish beliefs, values, traditions and history. In line with the NSW Education Act 1990, SRE is offered during class time to students whose parents or carers have nominated Judaism as a subject of choice through their school’s enrolment system.

What is Special Religious Education (SRE)?
Special Religious Education (SRE), also known as “Scripture,” is BJE’s largest educational program, delivering a comprehensive Jewish curriculum to students in over 60 public schools across NSW.
Thanks to the generous support of JCA, BJE offers this program free of charge, making foundational Jewish knowledge accessible to as many students as possible.
SRE, or alternatively Special Education in Ethics (SEE), is an optional program offered to students in Years K–8, and requires parental consent at the time of school enrolment or via the school administration. See our SRE Scope and Sequence.

Supporting Studies Of Religion Curriculum
We’re proud to contribute to interfaith education by partnering with schools to support the Studies of Religion (SOR) curriculum. Our programs help students gain a deeper, more personal understanding of Judaism in the context of broader religious learning.
Our offerings include:
- Synagogue tours and visits
- Tailored classroom sessions led by our Head of Jewish Life
- Interactive Jewish learning programs designed to support SOR outcomes
We welcome opportunities to collaborate and create space for meaningful interfaith dialogue and respectful exploration of Jewish beliefs, culture and traditions.
